Tesco has started to sell discontinued products for just 1p each.

Shoppers have been flocking to stores across the country to pick up the bargains, which range from iPod Touch cases to clothes and umbrellas, according to the Daily Mail.

Shoppers contributing to the moneysavingexpert.com website reported buying a £13 Kerplunk game as well as £8 umbrellas.

Tesco has a policy of offering discounts on discontinued lines which start at 25%, rising to 50% and then 75%. They are then reduced to 1p after a set time. Shoppers only find out about the bargain price once they are at the till.

A Tesco spokesman said: “These are discontinued products which have gone beyond the ‘reduce to clear’ period. Our view it is better these items are sold rather than being thrown away.”
