Executives to run division
Tesco's US expansion is in full swing, with the first stores planned for Los Angeles and Phoenix under the Tesco Fresh & Easy brand.

The supermarket giant is thought to be looking for 15,000 sq ft (1,395 sq m) sites. These are smaller than the average UK supermarket, but larger than a typical 2,000 sq ft (185 sq m) Tesco Express format and considerably larger than US rival convenience chain 7-Eleven.

It is also understood that Tesco is recruiting for executive positions for the US division.

The Financial Times reported that the retailer has already purchased a 1.4 million sq ft (130,060 sq m) distribution centre at Riverside County, east of Los Angeles and established US headquarters at El Segundo, south of LA international airport.

In February, the supermarket chain revealed it would spend£250 million opening small US stores, modelled on the Tesco Express format.
