Aurora-owned fashion retailer Oasis has launched an SMS gift voucher service to test customers’ appetites for mobile promotions with a view to rolling out the offer to Oasis’ sister fascias.

Oasis is offering customers the chance to buy gift vouchers in values of £10 to £300 through its website and a dedicated site www.oasismobilevoucher.com, which can be redeemed in stores.

The retailer has worked with mobile voucher provider Eagle Eye Solutions and its EPoS provider BT Expedite on the system.

Customers can set the time they would like the voucher to be delivered to the recipient’s mobile phone and the recipient can click through for more information from the site if they have a web-enabled mobile phone. The recipient then takes their mobile phone to store and shows the text message to redeem the voucher.

Mobile vouchers can’t currently be redeemed through Oasis’ ecommerce site, but the retailer is looking at developing this functionality.

Parent Aurora plans to roll-out the system to its other brands next year. The roll out is expected to be straightforward as all fascias use the same BT Expedite EPoS solution and BT Fresca web platform.

Oasis has already seen success in the mobile channel with its iPhone application, which achieved a return on investment within 25 days of launching. A second version of the application is due to be launched before Christmas.

Oasis managing director Sharon O’Connor said the mobile gift voucher initiative is part of the future integration of online and in-store commerce and will help to keep Oasis “at the forefront of technological development”.
