Super Sale gives Harrods a boost

Harrods claims to be taking market share from upscale London rivals after delivering a record-breaking summer Sale performance.

Sales at the Knightsbridge department store rose 4 per cent to£67.3 million during the month-long clearance, compared with last year.

Harrods said strong sales of clothing, jewellery and accessories contributed to the best Sale results in the landmark store's 155-year history. The childrenswear, beauty, toy and food departments also registered double-digit growth.

Harrods chief executive officer Richard Simonin said: 'Harrods has increased sales by 9.1 per cent since February 1 and is significantly gaining market share in London.'
