Luxury accessories and ready-to-wear brand Loewe refurbished its shop in Valencia just before Christmas, creating a concept store.

Located on the Marqués de Dos Aguas in the heart of the city, the 3,230 sq ft store is the result of collaboration between Spanish brand and luxury architect Peter Marino.

The underlying thought behind the store design was the creation of a gift box, containing precious treasure. And looking inside the store there is certainly the sense of careful joinery at work in an interior that is predominantly composed of light wood pieced together in a manner reminiscent of a child’s puzzle.

This is a store with a complex internal layout, where mid-shop display cabinets sit on wooden plinths and around the perimeter, recessed, internally lit, open-fronted wardrobes are used to display the many leather goods and pieces of jewellery on offer. Also worth noting are the extracts for entries to the Loewe foundation poetry competition, handwritten into the walls.

Loewe claims that the store’s 20-metre cast bronze facade has been designed in an “artisanal” manner, in the same way in which it manufactures its leather goods.

All well and good then and this is certainly a fine piece of work and one that is likely to find favour with the Euro-set for whom style is all and money is not really a consideration.

It would be churlish to remark on the similarity between this store’s interior and the Louis Vuittion store in Westfield London, also designed by Peter Marino. So perhaps the comparison should not be made.
