Spain’s first H&M flagship store has just opened and, among other things, it sells food.

The four-floor, 5,000 sq m store on central Barcelona’s Passeig de Gràcia boasts a culinary space, the outcome of a collaboration with flexitarian (a plant-based diet with the occasional addition of meat) restaurateur Flax & Kale.

Dubbed Flax & Kale x H&M, the store serves coffee, juices and ‘grab and go’ food, according to Jordi Barri, managing director of Teresa Carles, the Flax & Kale parent company.

“Inspiration for the store has been taken from public spaces such as art galleries, museums and contemporary architecture”

Elsewhere, the store is home to many of the features designed for H&M flagships across the world, with materials that include marble, glass, mirrors, steel, and leather.

This means that white, black and dark green are the dominant colours across the interior.

A heavy emphasis has also been placed on the H&M Home offer, as well as a collection that covers all of the retailer’s fashion categories.

A spokesperson said that inspiration for the store has been taken from public spaces such as art galleries, museums and contemporary architecture.
