The department store will roll out its new womenswear concept - which gives a clearer identity to its brands and uses upmarket fixtures - to 20 stores over the next three years in a bid to increase sales by 5% to 10%.

The retailer is expected to say that profits have returned to pre-recession levels when it reveals its half-year results on Thursday.

Fashion sales leapt 19% in the six months to the end of July.
