Retailers are hoping Halloween is more treat than trick this year as they aim to capture a slice of spooky sales.

Retailers including Sainsbury’s, Asda and Whole Foods have all decked their stores out for Halloween. 

Verdict has predicted that the UK is set to spend £472m on Halloween this year, up from £460m last year.

Barclaycard has highlighted what it terms ‘the vampire economy’, suggesting that 33% of consumers spend more shopping online at night, compared to five years ago.

Last year, Asda came out on top as the most popular retail for Halloween decorations, clothing and entertainment.

However, 25.7% said they shopped for food at Tesco
