Icebergs are not an uncommon feature off the coast of Canada.

It is therefore not surprising that Canadian outerwear brand Mackage, in opening two new stores in Toronto shopping centres, has opted to make the service counter a faux iceberg with a snowy landscape on the lightbox immediately behind it.

Designed by local consultancy Burdifilek, the store is characterised by compartmentalisation.

Plain wooden planking and dark floors ensure the emphasis is firmly on the product, an idea reinforced by low ambient light levels and careful ‘hero’ spotlighting.

More mini-icebergs are used as display plinths around the store. Density is kept low to push the notion of quality.

In terms of referencing the great outdoors and making a link with the product that is being sold, this is a very strong example.
