Sir Philip Green is to try out some of his Arcadia brands in his Bhs stores for the first time.

Next month, Bhs will start selling Wallis, Dorothy Perkins, Evans and Burton clothing in its Peterborough store in the Queensgate Centre. The trial, sources say, could be rolled out if it proves successful.

The Chambers retail consultant Sally Bain said the brands’ in-store execution would be key to the project’s success. “It will depend on the space given and how big stores with those fascias are in the area,” said Bain.

She said the initiative highlighted a trend among retailers to try and give customers more reasons to visit their stores. “These brands could give an extra reason for customers to go into Bhs,” she said. “It could attract new customers or give current customers an incentive to go more often.”

Bhs will report its full-year results on October 7.
