US jewellery giant Signet has revealed a 0.6 per cent fall in like-for-like sales at its UK arm in the 13 weeks to August 2.

Signet, which owns H Samuel and Ernst Jones in the UK, posted like-for-like sales slid 0.4 per cent at H Samuel and 0.8 per cent at Ernest Jones.

For the 26 weeks to August 2, UK like-for-likes climbed 2.3 per cent, with H Samuel up 2.4 per cent and Ernest Jones up 2.2 per cent.

Signet’s group like-for-likes slipped 4.5 per cent in the 13-week period and 3.4 per cent for the 26 weeks.

Signet group chief executive Terry Burman said: “In the UK, as expected, the like-for-like sales growth of the first quarter was not maintained. However, the second quarter was still encouraging, given the demanding comparatives and the division's continued outperformance of the non-food retail category.”
