Selfridges gets raft of applicants for Bullring store

Although it is yet to widely advertise the positions, Selfridges has already received more than 2,000 applications for the 1,000 jobs it plans to create at its new Birmingham store.

The 200,000 sq ft (18,600 sq m) shop, due to open in September, is still being fitted out, but there has been a flood of applications for jobs in fields such as merchandising and HR.

Designed by architect Future Systems around a blue 'skin' covered in more than 15,000 aluminium discs the store is part of the city's£500 million Bullring development.

General manager of the Birmingham store Sarah Halsall said the retailer was delighted by the number of applications.
