Edinburgh Woollen Mill (EWM) Group is preparing to launch a brand new department store in a former BHS unit in Carmarthen, South Wales.

It will be named Day’s Department Store – after the group’s owner Philip Day – and is due to open in April.

Equorium Property, which is part of the EWM Group, has submitted a planning application to Carmarthenshire County Council to open the 16,900 sq ft store at 2-5 Guildhall Square, Drapers reported.

The application shows plans to install a new shop front and entrance, to redecorate and to put up new signage.

It does not specify which of EWM Group’s brands, such as Peacocks, Edinburgh Woollen Mill, Jane Norman, Ponden Home Stores and Austin Reed, will be included in the department store.

However, a job advert said: “This department store will feature the brands of one of the fastest-growing retail groups in the UK, which has ambitious growth plans. We will be opening in April 2017 with a two-floor retail department store embracing fashion, home, premium brands and a new concept restaurant, all under one roof.”

Last November, Day revealed ambitions to open 200 new stores across his Peacocks, Jane Norman and Austin Reed fascias by 2018.

EWM Group, which operates more than 980 standalone stores as well as concessions, bought the Austin Reed brand out of administration in May last year.
