Amazon will also open new fulfilment centres this autumn in Manchester and Coalville, Leicestershire

The new facility, the etail giant’s 13th UK fulfilment centre, will open in Tilbury next spring and create 1,500 permanent jobs.

Amazon UK operations vice-president, John Tagawa, said the centre will allow it to ”continue to expand our product selection, support more third-party sellers, including small businesses, with our fulfilment expertise and meet growing customer demand in the UK”.

The new centre will be equipped with Amazon Robotics technology, which speed up order processing times. The robots slide under a tower of shelves where products are stowed, lift it and move it through the fulfilment centre.

It comes as Amazon is also gearing up to open new fulfilment centres this autumn in Manchester and Coalville, Leicestershire, creating 1,500 new permanent jobs over three years.

Amazon announced earlier this month it will also open a new fulfilment centre in Doncaster next summer creating 500 new full-time permanent jobs.

Amazon has 10 fulfilment centres in the UK, including two already in Doncaster and one in Dunfermline, Dunstable, Gourock, Hemel Hempstead, Milton Keynes, Peterborough, Rugeley and Swansea Bay.
