Gear4music full-year sales hit a high note as the specialist online retailer aggressively expanded its distribution network.

The specialist retailer recorded a 58% leap in like-for-like sales year-on-year to £56.1m in the 12 months to February 28, driven by a 124% increase in sales across its international markets.

The retailer, which reported a 34% increase in UK like-for-likes, opened distribution centres in Sweden and Germany during the period.

Gear4music’s Swedish distribution centre has built strong sales momentum, resulting in a 186% like-for-like sales increase in the region in the period from the fulfilment centre opening in November to last month.

The retailer’s number of active customers also jumped, by 49% to 339,800.

The online retailer will post its full-year results in May.

Chief executive Andrew Wass said: “We are extremely pleased with our trading performance over the last 12 months.

“Whilst continuing to invest in the future growth of the business, we have closely managed our costs and the board is now confident of delivering profits for the year marginally ahead of our increased expectations signalled in January.”
