Second Totally London scheme to entice visitors

London's beleaguered West End hopes to entice shoppers back to stores with a second Totally London campaign from August 31 to September 30.

Visit London - formerly the London Tourist Board - is spearheading the campaign, which aims to encourage the capital's residents back to the West End, following a fall in retail activity because of security fears, the Iraq war and SARS.

Figures released by the Mayor of London show that the first Totally London campaign increased footfall in London stores and raised awareness about what the city has to offer.

The enticement is sorely needed, especially after reports that American tourists are unlikely to start pouring back.

The number of North American visitors to the UK in June fell to its lowest like-for-like level in six years, according to the Government's latest international passenger survey.
