Like-for-likes down 9.4 per cent
Like-for-like sales at DIY retailer Wickes fell 9.4 per cent for the 16 weeks to April 22, owner Travis Perkins will announce at its AGM today.

In a statement, the group said: 'Trading is recovering slowly from the difficult market conditions experienced at the beginning of the year, with the pace of recovery still being affected by weak consumer spending.'

Total showroom sales were down 7.2 per cent, although the group said Easter trading was 'satisfactory'. Its market share has also increased, with like-for-likes sales and margins slightly ahead of expectations.

Two Wickes stores have opened since the end of last year.

Travis Perkins said its merchanting division is performing better than its retail arm. Overall group turnover was up 9 per cent for the period.
