Sainsbury’s Bank and foreign exchange specialist Travelex are to to open more than 100 bureaux de change in the grocer’s stores before the end of 2009.

Sainsbury’s hopes the partnership with Travelex will drive footfall in stores, as it taps into increasing customer demand for convenient in–store foreign currency exchange services.

Last month, Sainsbury’s opened bureaux in Warrington, Cheadle, Rugby and Wigan, with 10 more set to be confirmed during November and early December. The roll-out follows a successful trial at at Sainsbury’s Cromwell Road store in London, in March.

The travel money bureaux can provide up to 71 currencies as well as Travelex’s innovative prepaid currency card, Cash Passport, which is available in sterling, euros and US dollars.

Neal Devine at Sainsbury’s Bank said: “This latest addition to the services we offer complements both our customers’ holiday checklist and our growing financial services business.”
