Darren Shapland to fill gap left by Roger Matthews' departure
Carpetright group finance director Darren Shapland is leaving to become chief financial officer at Sainsbury's. His leaving date has not yet been confirmed, but Carpetright said he would not go until after its end-of-year results, which are expected at the end of June.

Shapland leaves Carpetright after two years in the job and previously worked for Superdrug and Arcadia. Carpetright chairman and chief executive Lord Harris said: 'Darren has done an excellent job for Carpetright and has been an important member of the senior team.'

Shapland will replace Roger Matthews, who announced his departure from Sainsbury's in October last year. Matthews will stay on at Sainsbury's until its preliminary results in May.

Sainsbury's chief executive Justin King said: 'Darren has excellent experience in the retail sector and has undertaken a number of hands-on and broad financial roles. He will be a great asset to Sainsbury's and the company's management team as we continue to implement the plans outlined last October.'
