Retail Solutions - Tesco secures stores with ADT sensor system

Tesco has signed off£2.5 million to security specialists ADT to provide electronic tag sensor infrastructures in 250 stores.

The contract completes the retailer's strategy to install the Acousto Magnetic technology in all 725 stores.

The system will include Megamax security sensors at all exits and AssetPro pedestals, at all other doors in the store, including toilets.

Acousto Magnetic tags are fixed to small-format, high-value items in the store and are removed at point of purchase. Any attempt to leave the store before the tags are removed will trigger an alarm.

A Tesco spokesman said: 'We've worked in partnership with ADT for the past five years and have designed a solution that has been very effective in deterring theft.'

ADT has also been awarded the security contract for Tesco's European operations.

The current installation has already started and is due to be completed by October. The British Retail Consortium has identified store theft as a significant problem for retailers and says that money lost to thieves is around£2 billion a year.
