Retail Solutions - SMEs get help from IT gurus

A group of leading independent retail IT consultants has joined forces to offer health checks for small and mid-tier retail businesses to help smooth the transition to Chip and PIN. The aim is to help scope projects and assess risk areas, so that retailers have a better understanding of the problems involved and also help with achieving the necessary systems certification required under EMV rules.

'Retailers need to have a working system ready for testing before they can apply to their acquirers for certification,' said Ian Nayler of Retail Systems Consultancy. 'If it then fails, they have to go back in the queue and wait another three months for a second attempt at certification - there are fewer than 400 working days to go before the liability shift.'
