Retail Solutions - Lessons learnt from disability-friendly PIN pad

Marks & Spencer will be the one of the beneficiaries of a newly-designed PIN pad from Hypercom next October, codenamed HFT108.

The design complies with the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (DDA), following a project dogged with troubles to fit an earlier model in Hypercom's PIN pad range at Post Offices earlier this year.

The pads were criticised for enabling people standing behind the wheelchair users to see the PIN number being typed in. A spokesman for Hypercom acknowledged that the Post Office was a contributory factor in putting out the new design.

'The experience that we've had has been an influence in the design,' he said.
