Retail Solutions - First phase success in Matalan upgrade

Value clothing and homewares retailer Matalan is upgrading its supply chain in a major enhancement programme involving JDA Software, Manhattan Associates, Kurt Salmon Associates and Severn Group.

The retailer went live with the first phase of its planned installation of JDA's Portfolio Merchandise Management, Store Portals, Ideas business intelligence software and Arthur allocation and planning tools early last month.

Manhattan is providing its PkMS warehouse management system and SmartInfo business intelligence tool with real-time collaboration capability from InfoLink for supply chain event management. Systems are being installed at Matalan's distribution centres at Knowsley on Merseyside, Winwick in Cheshire and Skelmersdale in Lancashire.

'These changes to our systems will improve the responsiveness of our supply chain, allowing improved product availability and overall levels of customer service,' said Matalan chief executive Paul Mason. 'We are confident that we can continue to deliver what our customers really want from our products and stores.'

According to JDA European managing director Andrew Blatherwick: 'Matalan has established a true partnership within its implementation team that brings together the core competencies of each company. IT projects involving significant organisational change are never easy.'

Severn Group, a late addition to the implementation team, is a specialist in change management.
