AWG Developments and City and Northern have completed their 6,000 sq m retail park on the former Smiths Wires site on Charlestown Road in Halifax, West Yorkshire.
Tenants include Currys, Next, JJB Sports and Pizza Hut and, as well as transforming a redundant industrial site, the scheme created about 400 new jobs. Before construction began, six months were spent removing a century of accumulated ash and iron waste.
AWG Developments development manager Julian Rawson said: 'This is a project I am proud of. We successfully remedied a badly contaminated site without grant aid, and managed to recycle a large amount of the materials there.
'I believe we have improved the retail offer in Halifax by attracting high-profile retail and leisure operators, including Next and the new JJB Sports Health and Fitness concept.'
