Retail Property - Virginware looks beyond London

Underwear and swimwear retailer Virginware has opted to open a second store at Hammerson's Oracle scheme in Reading, signalling the start of roll-out plans for the brand.

Virginware opened its first store in Fouberts Place, off London's Carnaby Street, in June last year. Chief executive officer Dimitris Antoniades said: 'It was our goal to open a standalone shop outside London.' Because of sensitivities over the pricing of flexible leases, both the length of lease on Virginware's new 85 sq m Oracle store and the rent have not been disclosed. CB Hillier Parker and Lunson Mitchenall are letting agents for The Oracle.

Retained agent Jackson Criss is now working on expansion plans for Virginware.

The Manchester-based retailer wants to open a store in the northern fashion capital before rolling the brand out nationwide. Larger schemes, including Bluewater and the Trafford Centre, have been examined.

Lush and Swarovski are other recent additions to the line up at The Oracle, which is gaining a reputation for housing retail trials.

Last year, Fcuk Menswear chose The Oracle for its second store, while Kickers and Faith Footwear have used the centre to test new fascias.
