Retail Property - The Computer Shop launches 20-store plan

PC manufacturer and retailer Time Group has launched a review of its property strategy, following the decision to rebrand its store portfolio as The Computer Shop.

Meanwhile, GVA Grimley has won the instruction to advise on the expansion of its high street and out-of-town business.

The company already has 140 The Computer Shop units throughout the UK, and it has set itself the target of increasing this to 160 by September.

However, a number of existing units could be relocated as part of the revamp.

Time Group head of property George Perrin said: 'This will involve looking carefully at both our existing locations and some 30 new ones.'

GVA Grimley retail partner Richard Lucas said: 'In all, as many as 90 acquisitions and disposals may be involved in the task, so this represents a major new market opportunity.'

The latest rebadging is only one of a series of changes in fascia. The Computer World brand was only launched in January last year, following the acquisition of Tiny Computers by Time Group.

The brand was replaced with The Computer Shop following an out-of-court settlement with Dixons, which is thought to have felt the name was too close to PC World.
