Retail Property - Plans for Harlow redevelopment to be submitted

Stratford-upon-Avon-based developer Stannifer is about to lodge a detailed planning application for the redevelopment of the central shopping area at Harlow in Essex.

It is managing the scheme on behalf of the Sapphire consortium with Bank of Scotland and South Africa's Corovest, which owns the existing 51,095 sq m Harvey Centre.

Stannifer plans to refurbish and extend the existing scheme, adding 23,225 sq m of prime retail space with larger, open floorplates that meet the requirements of modern retailers, as well as a new anchor department store.

The developer said talks are close to conclusion with an operator.

Sapphire recently purchased a site next to the Harvey Centre, which will provide another 9,290 sq m of new space, while part of the Harvey Centre will also be reconfigured.

Stannifer chief executive Ron Barrott said: 'We have moved swiftly to come up with innovative yet deliverable proposals to improve the quality of Harlow's shopping environment.'

King Sturge is letting agent for the Harvey Centre.
