Retail Property - H&M to further test the Details store concept

Hennes & Mauritz intends to extend the trial of its new lingerie and accessories concept, Details by H&M.

The retailer plans to undertake a six-store trial and has narrowed its search for the required units to about a dozen of Britain's top-20 retail locations and regional centres.

Units providing about 3,500 sq ft (325 sq m) with 1,500 sq ft (140 sq m) of back-up space are being sought for Details by H&M stores. The concept, pitched at a higher fashion level than mainstream H&M stores, was launched in February at Manchester's Trafford Centre.

H&M is also continuing the expansion of its principal UK high street store operation. The retailer will open a second outlet in Manchester city centre in the autumn at the Arndale Centre, where it has taken a 12,700 sq ft (1,180 sq m) store.

Andrew Bradley, a partner at Hartnell Taylor Cook, which acquired the Arndale store for H&M, said: 'Market conditions are such that these big city conurbations are able to support two flagship stores.'
