Retail Property - BCSC hunts for full-time chief

The British Council of Shopping Centres has launched a search to find a full-time chief executive. The decision follows a meeting of the BCSC board earlier this year to thrash out a strategy for Britain's shopping centre trade body.

Hammerson chief executive and BCSC president John Richards said: 'Relations with Government and other organisations are too complicated to be carried out by a part-time, unpaid president.'

Members have been told: 'BCSC has developed a breadth and depth that means it would benefit from the contribution of a full-time chief executive who could regularly engage with Government and other key stakeholder groups to develop our agenda, improve our influence, target our education effort and secure the organisation's financial well-being.'

Executive recruitment consultants Spencer Stuart has been appointed to widen the search for a chief executive beyond the retail property sector.

The new post has also been advertised in the Financial Times and Sunday Times.

Richards said the management structure being adopted was similar to that operating at the British Retail Consortium and British Council for Offices.
