Redcats employees have voted against strike action following a dispute over pay.

About 500 workers were balloted for action to try to secure a wage rise for workers at the multichannel retailer’s sites in Bradford and Wakefield.

Shopworkers’ union Usdaw divisional officer Mike Brewer said: “The origins of this dispute can be traced back to the sale of the Empire Stores brand to the Littlewoods Shop Direct Group earlier this year, which caused significant job losses. This was followed by the imposition of a wage freeze for the remaining staff, who unsurprisingly felt aggrieved.”

He added: “Clearly the ballot result indicates that members have taken into account Redcats UK’s trading performance and, against a backdrop of unprecedented economic uncertainty, have reluctantly voted against industrial action.”
