LloydsPharmacy is the second largest pharmacy chain in the UK, although sales have been on a downward trend over the past couple of years. Profits have also been wiped out by Government cutting the amount of money pharmacies are reimbursed for dispensing certain medicines and the group has racked up pre-tax losses of more than £700m over the past four years as the funding cuts continue to bite.

Despite its recent travails, LloydsPharmacy has developed a strong niche as the UK’s largest community pharmacy operator, although it has been rationalising its store network since 2017 to bolster efficiencies.

A strong digital presence underpins Lloyds’ role as a community pharmacist, giving customers access to routine healthcare where and when it suits them. It is now focused on enhancing its digital services to create “a truly consistent experience for patients across all channels”.

LloydsPharmacy is active online through its ecommerce site and Online Doctor business, while its sister companies include the prestigious John Bell & Croyden site (which has a single flagship store in London) and Betterlife, a specialist provider of independent living aids.

The business is owned by global healthcare giant McKesson.
