Phones 4u’s collapse has triggered the biggest swathe of store closures in one day since Woolworths’ collapse in 2008, according to the Local Data Company.

Phones 4u’s administration is the biggest swathe of store closures  in one day since Woolworths’ collapse in 2008, according to the Local Data Company.

Phones 4u, which appointed administrators PwC yesterday, shuttered the doors of its 550 standalone stores and 160 concessions yesterday.

The collapse came after both Vodafone and EE pulled their contracts with the mobile phone retailer this month.

In 2008, high street stalwart Woolworths fell into administration and phased the closure of its 800 stores, shuttering 200 on December 27, another 200 on December 30, 200 on January 2 and the remainder in January 5.
