Property News - Revamped Hull scheme plays host to first 'Pod'

The Junction Limited Partnership, the out-of-town fund managed by Capital & Regional and Morley Fund Management, has opened its first Junction-branded retail park in Hull.

The transformed retail park also includes The Pod, a central services building providing leisure, retail and entertainment facilities.

Sky TV presenter Kirsty Gallacher opened the first Pod, which is fully let to tenants including Starbucks, Carphone Warehouse and Silver Trek Outdoor Sports Store and. The Pod is 17 metres tall with a total area of 1,000 sq m over three floors and features an indoor climbing wall, and interactive games machines.

Initial indications are that the refurbishment and rebranding of the park has driven up visitor numbers by 15 per cent in the first few weeks of opening.

Junction chief executive Andrew Lewis-Pratt said: 'To have signed up these high-profile tenants shows confidence in our vision to redevelop our portfolio of retail parks.

Competition for space at The Pod has been very strong - several tenants have already asked for first refusal on future developments.

Following the success of this site, planning is already under way for the 'Junctionisation' and development of Pods in other retail parks within our portfolio.'

Over the past two years, the former St Andrew's Quay retail park has undergone a dramatic change, with B&Q Warehouse, Comet, Carpet-right and DFS all opening, to be joined next month by sofa retailer ScS.

Briant Champion Long is the letting agent for The Junction.
