Property News - Plans on track for largest Irish mall outside Dublin

Plans have been unveiled for the largest shopping mall in Ireland outside Dublin.

Ballymore Properties and Mountbrook Homes have joined forces to promote the 345,000 sq ft (32,050 sq m) White Water shopping centre on the former Irish Ropes site at Newbridge, County Kildare.

The White Water scheme will include three anchor tenants, 50 retail units, 1,700 parking spaces, 14,000 sq ft (1,300 sq m) of commercial space, 85 residential units and a six-screen cinema.

The total value of the scheme on completion will be more than EUR175 million (£120 million).

At the moment, the site is being cleared and an access road and services are being built. The on-site construction work is due to start soon for completion in spring 2006.

Larry Brennan, partner at Hamilton Osborne King - joint letting agent with Colm McEvoy - said discussions are ongoing with major anchor tenants.

Ballymore Properties chairman and managing director Sean Mulryan said: 'White Water will be fashion-focused, offering the people a real alternative to shopping in Dublin.

'We will attract some of the largest European, UK and Irish retailers to the scheme, which will appeal to the quality mass market.'
