Property News - Glasgow to host JD's Open store

JD Sports parent John David Group is to launch a second 'Open' fashion department store in Glasgow's Buchanan Galleries centre. The Open concept was successfully trialled earlier this year in Church Street, Liverpool.

The Buchanan Partnership, a joint venture between Slough Estates and Henderson Global Investors, has agreed a new 20-year lease at£1 million a year on the 37,000 sq ft (3,440 sq m) former Habitat store on Buchanan Street.

It will trade on two levels, with 16,260 sq ft (1,510 sq m) of ground floor space and 20,720 sq ft (1,925 sq m) at first floor level.

Open specialises in branded fashion and footwear. Nick Young, partner at letting agent Strutt & Parker, said: 'This is a key letting for the scheme, which fits in with a tenant mix geared towards the region's affluent consumer profile.'

Strutt & Parker and Cushman & Wakefield Healey & Baker acted jointly for the Buchanan Partnership. John David Group was represented by Churston Heard, and Habitat by Dexter Wood & Partners.
