Property News - Game extends out-of-town trial

Game is extending its out-of-town trial, as part of ongoing plans to develop a variety of formats serving different sectors of the retail market.

Next week, the video games and computer software retailer will open is second out-of-town store at Gallions Reach Shopping Park at Becton, East London. Game, which opened its first out-of-town store at Cheshire Oaks in 2000, is also looking at Glasgow Fort, which opens in 16-months time. The scarcity of smaller 1,500 sq ft to 2,000 sq ft (140 sq m to 185 sq m) out-of-town units on specialist shopping parks has restricted Game's retail park ambitions so far.

Development of Game's fledgling factory outlet operations has yet to be finalised, following the opening of a unit at Freeport's Castleford scheme in July.

But, smaller neighbourhood Game stores could be rolled out to other cities following the opening of trial stores in Putney and Fulham in London earlier this year. Additional neighbourhood Game stores, serving the London suburbs of Chiswick and Wandsworth, are under way.

Earlier this year, Game announced plans to open an extra 20 outlets by February 2004.
