Organic food retailer Planet Organic has signed leases to open two stores in north London.

The shops, in Muswell Hill and Islington, are expected to open by summer and will bring the retailer’s total to five, all in London.

The Muswell Hill branch will measure 4,200 sq ft and the Islington branch 5,000 sq ft. Both will have an in-store café.

Planet Organic managing director Brian Elliott said: “This is a very exciting time for us. Unlike the supermarket giants, we like to preserve and nourish the valuable relationship between independent shopkeeper and customer.”

The grocer says it was the first high street food retailer to offer an entirely biodegradable plastic-free carrier bag.
