The Very Group has appointed Steve Pimblett for its newly created role of chief data officer.

Pimblett joins the online retailer from connected car technology firm Wejo, having previously held senior data roles at listed online gaming company Betsson Group and Moneysupermarket.com.

He will report into chief technology officer Andy Burton and be tasked with overseeing The Very Group’s approach to data across all areas including strategy, science, analytics and engineering.

Pimblett’s appointment follows The Very Group posting a 36% surge in fourth-quarter sales in August as new customer numbers doubled during lockdown. The online retailer is on track to return to full-year profitability this year.

Burton said: “Steve is an outstanding leader with real technical know-how. His experience will let us further build our data capabilities to give our customers the best, most relevant experiences and help us make even faster and better decisions.”

Pimblett added: “It’s an exciting time to join The Very Group, which has an ambitious vision for the future and is growing as more and more UK consumers shop online. I can’t wait to work with the team to use our wealth of rich customer data to improve business performance.”
