SuperGroup has poached Marks & Spencer’s property director Hugo Adams to head up its marketing and business development function, Retail Week can reveal.

Adams will leave M&S at the end of November and will be replaced by Steven Bennett, who is head of property at the retailer.

The move marks a return to business development for Adams, who initially joined M&S from Dyson as head of international business development in May 2008.

That role was expanded to include international strategy in September 2009 and he became executive assistant to former M&S boss Marc Bolland in November 2011.

He took on the director of property role two and a half years ago.

A SuperGroup spokesman said: “We are delighted that Hugo is joining SuperGroup as marketing and business development director.

“He brings key skills which will bolster the top team as we continue to drive our strategy to build a global lifestyle brand.”

Adams’ successor Bennett only joined Marks & Spencer from Travis Perkins in July. He has previously held senior property roles at Dixons, Specsavers and Superdrug.

A spokeswoman for M&S said: “Hugo has made a great contribution to M&S in a variety of roles over the past few years and he leaves with our best wishes.

On the appointment of Bennett, the spokeswoman added: “Steven has a wealth of property knowledge and experience spanning a number of organisations.”
