Retail Week and World Retail Congress managing director Chris Brook-Carter is leaving to become chief executive of industry charity Retail Trust.

He will start at the beginning of May, succeeding Richard Boland in the role, and leaves Retail Week after almost a decade.

Brook-Carter led Retail Week’s move to a digital platform and oversaw the growth of events such as Retail Week Live. Retail Trust chair and New Look director Alistair McGeorge said: “The digital future of the trust will benefit from his creative input and knowledge.

“We are pleased to have secured someone with such relevant understanding and knowledge of the future shape and needs of retailing, and with the commitment and passion to drive forward the wellbeing strategy of the trust.”

Brook-Carter said: “I am absolutely delighted to be joining Retail Trust. I believe the services they provide have never been more essential. I very much look forward to working with all my new colleagues to ensure the trust remains at the heart of how retail excels in its commitments to the welfare of all involved in the sector.”

Retail Trust was established in 1832 and offers a range of services ranging from financial and mental health support to vocational guidance.

Among its recent initiatives are the rollout of smart retirement homes, equipped with the latest digital technology, and a wellbeing portal.
