Poundland has announced two new additions to its leadership team.

Tim Bettley will take up the role of trading director in January and Dave Williams has joined as finance director.

Bettley, formerly of The Original Factory Shop, Morrisons and Peacocks, was recruited for his experience leading large commercial, supply chain and broader business functions in the value and retail sector.

He will take responsibility for Poundland’s trading, stock control and marketing teams, reporting to UK and Ireland managing director Barry Williams, as Poundland continues to transform itself into a general merchandise, FMCG and clothing business following the completion of its 12-month rollout of Pep & Co fashion shop-in-shops to around a third of its estate.

Dave Williams has joined Poundland after CFO roles at JD Sports, JBB, TJ Hughes and Focus DIY, and will also take responsibility for Poundland’s property team.

Managing director Barry Williams said: “These are two important hires to complete my top team.

“It’s no coincidence that both have value retail and clothing experience. That’s because we’re building a new Poundland that’s extending our promise of amazing value every day into a broader range of products.”

In September, Poundland announced it will open stores in up to 20 former Poundworld locations following its rival’s demise.

The value chain is finalising plans to open stores on the sites and will add its fashion offer, Pep & Co, to the mix in eight of the locations.

The move is expected to create 400 jobs. All former Poundworld staff have been guaranteed interviews.

Poundworld entered administration in June and shut its doors for the final time last month.
