HMV has appointed former Jessops chairman David Adams as a non-executive director.

The entertainment retailer said Adams brings a “wealth of retail experience to the HMV board”. He takes up the position on June 1.

Before Jessops Adams held senior executive roles at Burton Group, Texas Homecare, Asprey and House of Fraser.

Adams’ current non-executive roles include Halfords and JJB Sports, where he is also chairman of the audit committee.

Adams will chair HMV’s Audit Committee, replacing Chris Rogers.

HMV chairman Philip Rowley said: “I am delighted to welcome David to the HMV Board. David’s knowledge of the retail sector will be of great value to HMV as we move the business forward. I would like to record my sincere thanks to Chris Rogers for his significant contribution to the Group over the past 6 years”.

Adams said: “I look forward to working with the HMV team. I am encouraged by the progress they have made in stabilising the business and look forward to playing a part in the Company’s ongoing transformation.”

Earlier this month HMV warned that losses for its last year will be £16m - higher than previously expected. However, it said that, aided by the collapse of Game, it expected to return to profitability in its current year.
