B&Q marketing director Katherine Paterson is leaving the DIY retailer after two years in the role to explore opportunities outside parent company Kingfisher.

A replacement for Paterson is being sought and, until an appointment is made, brand director David Hutchinson will take up her responsibilities.

Paterson is on B&Q’s board and that will remain the case with her successor.

B&Q chief executive Martyn Phillips thanked Paterson for her work.

Phillips said: “Over the last two years Katherine has helped lead the marketing team to a position of strength and has worked with the whole team during the last eight months to help develop the right structure to help us live Better Homes, Better Lives, create the Helpful Home Improvement Company and deliver the promises laid out in the manifesto.”

Paterson also led and delivered the “I did that” brand relaunch campaign, as well as developing a Youtube channel which offers hundreds of films to help customers improve their homes.
