First public service of its kind
Computer superstore retailer PC World has today launched a nationwide data recovery service for home computer users, with a No Fix, No Fee pledge.

The service has rolled out across the company's 152 stores, in conjunction with data recovery specialist Ibas. Trained technicians will offer the service for computer hard disk drives, memory cards from digital cameras, USB memory sticks and CDs/DVDs.

The service is priced at£59.99 for memory cards, USB sticks and CDs/DVDs and£99.99 for computer hard disk drives.

The move comes after YouGov research for the retailer revealed that 2.5 billion photographs, 2 billion songs and more than 20 million home movies are stored on home PC hard drives in the UK.

PC World customer service director Jon Naylor said: 'With this new emergency service for the digital age, consumers can come to PC World for expert help to recover precious memories, valuable music collections or irreplaceable records.

'Before, such services were only available to the business market and cost many hundreds of pounds.'
