Ottakar's picks WHSmith expert for own brand

Bookseller Ottakar's has completed its search for a product development director with the appointment of Graham Edmonds from WHSmith.

He will join Ottakar's in the newly-created position on October 1 and will take responsibility for developing own-label products and building exclusive offers.

Edmonds, category controller for children's education and reference at WHSmith, has worked in various positions at the store group since 1977.

He has also worked as an author: the latest edition of his book The Good Website Guide 2003 is scheduled for release in August.

He said his remit at Ottakar's was still open, and added: 'What's good about the (Ottakar's) kids' department is that they already soften the edges with a lot of other (non-book) products.'

Edmonds said he has yet to discuss the timing of his departure with his current employer.
