Argos has launched an entertainment website selling 125,000 CDs and DVDs.

Argosentertainment.co.uk is separate to the retailer’s main site and will enable it to “enter a popular market and offer a large choice of CDs and DVDs to customers shopping online”.

Games will not be available on the site, but can be bought from its main site, as can DVDs. However, CDs can only be bought from the new entertainment site.

Argos had an entertainment site previously, but it was disbanded.

The new website offers 125,000 titles of chart and back catalogue lines, all with free delivery.

Argos marketing director Karen Bray said: “Online shopping has become part of everyday life for many of our customers and the entertainment site will offer our customers an increased product choice at a competitive price.”

The website will be promoted from the www.argos.co.uk homepage. The Argos database and weekly customer emails will be used to raise awareness of the new entertainment offer and to target promotions to customers.

Last month WHSmith launched a dedicated entertainment website selling more than 200,000 products, as reported by Retail Week.

Both retailers’ sites were developed by The Hut.
