Notonthehighstreet.com

I have been sorely disappointed by the major toy retail websites this year. I haven’t got the faintest idea what a two-year old likes to play with, so I need ideas.

Unfortunately most toy sites have failed to inspire me. Notonthehighstreet.com is a refreshing change: it sells quirky products from 1,600 small creative businesses, which must create some challenges in terms of delivering a consistent service.

However, the site is a joy: it has a warm, homely look and feel, and a well thought out menu and navigation that makes it easy, and actually enjoyable, to find a gift that is both unusual and perfect.

Jaeger.co.uk

Jaeger doesn’t sell childrenswear but even if it did, I wouldn’t be buying any from its website. It has a beautiful homepage and nice features to showcase its range.

However, try and place an order and you find yourself in a bargain basement payment process that has you double-checking you haven’t been carted off onto some dodgy scam site.

The online shopping experience needs to be consistent - from the moment the customer arrives on the site right through to the service they get if something goes wrong. The Jaeger brand is all about quality and luxury, yet at the most crucial moment in the checkout the whole thing feels cheap.
