New PowerHouse aims to prove critics wrong

Pacific Retail Group chief executive Peter Halkett plans to 'prove the nay sayers wrong', by making a success of recently reborn New PowerHouse.

The retailer has appointed former Seeboard Electrical Superstores managing director Nigel Samuels to the post of commercial director. Samuels left Seeboard Energy earlier this year, at which time he was sales and marketing director.

Halkett said of Samuels: 'He knows the ropes and he knows the suppliers. We've had a lot of positive feedback from suppliers about his arrival.'

Former Comet development director Peter McTague has been drafted in as a property consultant. Mark Rogers has been named finance director.

New PowerHouse now has 134 shops, following a decision to close 93 loss-making outlets earlier this year. The closures came after PowerHouse's descent into administration.

Halkett said PowerHouse would now forge ties with suppliers and rebuild confidence among consumers.

He added: 'There are a few things that we're not making public at the moment.'
