New Look set to take Mim chain in France to 450

New Look is to more than double store numbers at its Mim joint venture in France.

There are 154 Mim stores, but New Look chief executive Stephen Sunnucks said there is potential for between 400 and 450. Shops are opening at a rate of around 30 a year.

The value retailer has hired a development director to liaise between the French and UK businesses. Pierre Galliard, who joined last week, will report to group operations director Carl McPhail in the UK.

Sunnucks said: 'The role is helping in the development of range planning and to get the businesses closer to each other.'

New Look opened in France in 1988 but merged with Mim two years ago to create NewMim after encountering problems in the country. The shops were rebranded Mim a year ago. Sunnucks believes current sales densities of£2,625 per sq m can be improved upon.
