Mothercare seeks replacement for Gunn

Mothercare is on the hunt for a new retail operations director following the resignation of Vince Gunn.

His departure, scheduled for the end of the month, was announced internally on Monday. Mothercare would not comment on Gunn's reasons for leaving.

However, he has held the post for two and a half years and, according to internal sources, he is keen to move on to a more challenging leadership role. He is looking at executive and non-executive positions at other businesses, including the possibility of a management buy-in.

At Mothercare, one of Gunn's principal responsibilities was developing new designs for out-of-town and high street stores. Last month, the retailer revealed encouraging sales figures and roll-out plans for innovative formats, developed from a prototype in Hammersmith that opened last September.

'Gunn was key to the launch of Hammersmith, and the trials of the other formats,' said a Mothercare spokeswoman. But sources said the success of the formats means Gunn's role has narrowed, as the new designs enter the roll-out phase.

The retailer is enjoying a revival in fortunes under new chief executive Ben Gordon, who joined last year.

- On Wednesday, Mothercare announced the appointment of Birmingham City Football Club managing director Karren Brady as a non-executive director.
